Introduction
We, Kalamin Karangal, are a well-organized NGO based in Chennai, performing social activities since 2015. Inspired by the legacy of the late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Kalamin Karangal closely works with vulnerable communities and empowers the socially marginalized by providing them livelihood linkages, imparting skills leading to employment, and improving health and education facilities. Our focus areas are livelihoods, skill development, health, education, rights, urban governance, financial inclusion, and other community development initiatives.

Our Vision
To make human settlements equitable living environments where all residents and vulnerable people have access to health, education, essential infrastructure services and livelihood options, irrespective of their economic and social status.
Our Approach
Kalamin Karangal engages organizations, corporates, and individuals from India and globally as partners and supporters. We initiated the Integrated Community Development Programme, an undertaking that seeks to rejuvenate slums into vibrant neighborhoods. We work with slum residents, children, women, youth, and vulnerable people in urban and rural areas, addressing multiple needs with one-stop solutions through which residents have access to basic services for holistic growth. We collaborate with communities, especially the youth, to undertake their upliftment programs. Communities co-invest with Kalamin Karangal and donors for program implementation and scaling-up.
Theory of Change
By utilizing our experience of working with communities, our market and need-based innovative approach, and by engaging with stakeholders, Kalamin Karangal will be able to empower thousands of vulnerable families. We focus on their livelihoods, financial inclusion, community leadership, and education. To be successful, we will build the capacity of our team members and community leaders, use technology for quality and monitoring, bring accountability, expand our reach, and bring in more funds by taking new approaches. With the active support from kind-hearted individuals and organisations, the Trust has evolved into a movement of rural youth, taking up the responsibility of rural areas in a larger perspective.
